After working as an Advanced Care Paramedic (ACP) and firefighter for over a decade, I have developed an appreciation for human resilience and the importance of mental health support. Throughout my career in emergency services, I found that people often felt comfortable opening up to me about their mental health.

I have been told by many people, they find me easy to talk to and relate, particularly those who might otherwise hesitate to pursue therapy. Recognizing a significant gap in mental health services, especially the unique barriers men face when seeking support, has led me to work in this field and help others navigate their challenges.

I enjoy addressing a diverse range of challenges, with specific interests in ADHD, dyslexia, and supporting first responders. I also like helping individuals enhance their relationships, whether with friends, family, or partners. Additionally, I enjoy guiding clients through life transitions, empowering them to navigate change and achieve their goals.

I primarily utilize a person-centered approach in my practice, tailoring each session to meet the individual needs of my clients. I also incorporate elements of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and narrative therapy, along with Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) for those who have experienced trauma.

Outside of my counselling work, I enjoy spending time in the outdoors mountain biking, sledding, skiing, 4x4ing, and camping. Additionally, I run an off-road vehicle fabrication business.

I look forward to working together to overcome the challenges you face.

I am currently completing a PhD in psychology, building on over 14 years of experience in the helping professions. I began my journey as an emergency nurse before discovering my true passion for supporting mental and emotional well-being. Originally from New Zealand, I identify as bicultural, embracing both my NZ European and Māori heritage. This background has informed my approach to therapy, particularly in my training in bicultural psychology, which allows me to incorporate a holistic lens.

For the past four years, I have specialized in trauma and relationship issues, creating a safe and compassionate environment for individuals to share their stories. I help clients develop coping skills to navigate difficult thoughts, feelings, and past trauma, fostering greater present-moment awareness. I believe in the transformative power of collaboration, empowering clients to work toward their goals and values, ultimately guiding them to create a meaningful life and shift their narratives from one of struggle to one of resilience.

In working with couples, I focus on enhancing communication and fostering connection, using attachment theory and Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) to guide partners in breaking free from negative patterns and cultivating intimacy.

I use a person-centered approach to facilitate self-discovery, incorporating various therapeutic methods such as CBT, DBT, ACT, EFT, IFS, and EMDR. Each method is tailored to meet the unique needs of my clients, ensuring they feel heard, valued, and supported throughout their journey.

When I’m not working, I enjoy outdoor adventures, skiing and snowboarding in the backcountry, sledding, mountain biking, surfing, and playing the guitar.
